David Birney, born Apr. 23, 1939 in Cleaveland, Ohio, was an American actor. First educated at Dartmouth and UCLA, he then went into the service. After a tour with the US Army, David’s acting career began on New York stages. He pivoted to TV to make a living, appearing in ’Bridget Loves Bernie’ in 1972 and 1973. There he would meet his future wife Meredith Baxter, but the show was short-lived because of protests over the couple’s mixed-religion marriage.
After ‘Bernie’ he appeared in the medical drama ‘St. Elsewhere’ in 1982 and 1983, but left to pursue his part in the award-winning Broadway production of ‘Amadeus’. The actor’s final credit was on the CBS procedural ‘Without A Trace’ in 2007.
David passed away on Apr. 29, 2022 after a five-year battle with Alzheimers disease. His death was confirmed by his “life partner” Michel Roberge.
