Missouri State University mourns the loss of assistant football coach Derek Moore. The 37-year-old was tragically shot on Friday evening in the parking lot of Northstar 14 theatres in Joplin, Mo. Moore died of his injuries in the hospital later that day.
The Joplin Globe reports that the suspect Jeffrey L. Bruner, 39, was accused of shooting Moore at 9:50 p.m. outside of the local theater.
He was taken into custody and is being held at the Joplin City Hall. Warrants were issued for felony murder and armed criminal action. He was denied bond.
The relationship between Moore and Bruner is not yet public information. Police say that they believe the shooting was targeted. No one else was injured in the shooting.

The Joplin Globe told Komu news that a witness captured video footage of the shooting.
According to a release published by the school, Moore was with the school team The Lions for his first year. He previously worked at Western Illinois University and coached there for three seasons.
He is survived by his seven-year-old son.
‘We are stunned and deeply saddened by this tragic incident, and our prayers are with Derek's family, said MSSU interim president Alan Marble in an official release.

The school cancelled its homecoming events and postponed a game against its rival Lindenwood.
‘The Missouri Southern athletics community is deeply saddened by the events that have occurred,’ athletics director Jared Bruggeman said.
A memorial service will be held for Moore at 4:30 pm on Monday at the Corely Auditorium in Webster Hall. Bruggeman and football coach Daryl Dale will speak at the ceremony and all faculty, students, alumni, and staff are invited to attend.

Grief counselors are available on staff to speak with students or faculty who are having a difficult time with their loss.
‘Derek was new to Missouri Southern, but he was embraced by our campus and community,’ Daye said. ‘He was a very likeable person who always had a smile on his face and made friends easily with our staff and players. This is an unspeakable loss for the MSSU athletics family.’
The school plans to host a candlelight vigil on Monday at the MSSU campus.
