William Bratton: American Law Enforcement Officer and Businessman
William Bratton, born in Boston, Massachusetts in October 1947, is an American law enforcement officer and businessman. Bratton currently serves as the New York City Police Commissioner, a position he previously held from 1994 to 1996. He also served as the Commissioner of the Boston Police Department from 1993 to 1994 and was Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department from 2002 to 2009.
Bratton’s policies have been credited with reducing both petty and violent crime and advocating for an ethnically diverse police force. He also aims to tackle police corruption, maintain strong relationships with law-abiding citizens, and be tough on gangs and anti-social behavior. In 2011, Bratton was approached by British Prime Minister David Cameron to become the new Metropolitan Police Commissioner but ended up in an advisory role to the British government instead.
Bratton is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Boston, and authored the book Turnaround: How America’s Top Cop Reversed the Crime Epidemic in 1998. His current net worth is $500 thousand.
